Tapered insulation refers to a pitched/sloped insulation system, it’s main purpose, other than to insulate the roof  building, is to provide a slope to areas in which ponding/standing water occurs to promote positive rooftop drainage by directing water towards drains or scuppers. Tapered insulation systems reduce the effect that ponding water can have on your roof system’s membrane. Standing water, if left sitting for a long period of time, can wear down or damage the membrane’s surface or roof coating. Standing water can eventually cause or find an open seam, allowing for water to infiltrate the roof system, damaging the insulation and possibly causing interior leaks. Deciding on a tapered roof insulation not only provides adequate drainage but can help extend the life of your roof system significantly.
